Debt and Wellfare FAQs

BeLifted's Debt and Welfare Surgery provides free, confidential support for women experiencing financial difficulties. The service helps women understand their options, manage debt, maximise income, access welfare benefits, housing, and receive practical guidance to improve financial stability and reduce financial stress.

Debt advice focuses on helping individuals manage debts, negotiate with creditors, and improve financial wellbeing. Welfare benefits advice helps people understand their entitlement to financial support, such as Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and other benefits they may be eligible to claim.

A debt advisor can help women assess their financial situation, prioritise essential payments, understand debt solutions, communicate with creditors, and access additional support services. The aim is to reduce financial pressure and help women regain control of their finances and future planning.

Many women may not realise they are entitled to benefits such as Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Carer's Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Child Benefit, Healthy Start support, Pension Credit, or Council Tax Reduction. Advice services can help identify and maximise potential entitlements.

Women are more likely to experience financial challenges linked to caring responsibilities, lower average earnings, part-time work, single parenthood, and economic abuse. Financial hardship can also impact mental health, housing stability, employment opportunities, and long-term financial security.

Through book discussions, debates, problem-solving activities, and creative projects, children learn to analyse information, consider different viewpoints, and express their own ideas. These experiences help strengthen critical thinking, reasoning, and independent learning skills that support lifelong education.

Yes. Single mothers can access debt advice, welfare benefits support, budgeting guidance, and referrals to specialist services. BeLifted works with women facing a range of financial challenges and helps identify practical solutions to improve household income and financial resilience.

The first step is to seek advice as early as possible. Contacting a debt advice service allows an adviser to review your circumstances, identify urgent issues, assess available options, and create a plan to address debt and financial difficulties before problems escalate.

BeLifted supports women experiencing housing challenges by providing debt and welfare advice, helping maximise income, identifying available housing support, and making referrals to specialist organisations where appropriate. Early intervention can help reduce the risk of rent arrears, homelessness, and financial crisis.
